Oil fired boiler with mains pressure cylinder?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.46 PM

Hi, Looking for some advice on whether an oil fired Worcester boiler (3 years old) we have inherited with a new house can be changed to work with a mains pressure cylinder rather than the current conventional set up with hot water cylinder, tank in loft etc? In addition the flue from the boiler is an asbestos cement flue running straight up through the house (*I think this may be an old flue that newer boiler has been connected to). Any reason we can't replace the flue and reroute it along ceiling and out above door of the utility room it's in? (all subject to safe removal of asbestos) Would really appreciate some advice so I can be better prepared when getting prices. Cheers

To be frank part of your post does not make sense regarding the boiler flue being constructed of 'Asbestos' considering you state the boiler is only 3 years old! All modern boiler flue's are made either from plastic or aluminium. I understand the other aspect of your query regarding hot water storage. You can change the existing open vent hot water cylinder for that of a un-vented one, which stores hot water under pressure and deliverers it a mains cold water pressure too. Invite a heating engineer with the relevant qualification to advise you about un-vented hot water cylinders.
