Certificate of Lawfulness

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.46 PM

Is a certificate of lawfulness granted in 2002 (under town & country planning order 1995 permitted development does not require planning permission.)still valid for use in 2017? IE Single storey rear extension build.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

For peace of mind you may choose to apply for a Lawful Development Certificate. This is not the same as planning permission but is proof that your household building work is lawful i.e Garage or loft conversion or extension .This would be typically used if the home owner were to move within 5 years and wanted legal proof that the development was lawful to avoid any delays when moving or selling the property. You can also apply and build it at the same time as long as all the criteria fell with in the permitted development technical guidance for home owners at that time.

Usually there is a condition that the works have to be completed in 3 years.
