Do I need a drain under my outdoor tap?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.06 PM

We've had an extension built and I the process run all the internal waste pipes to a boxed in sub stack in the bathroom. This includes the sink waste water and as a result the outdoor tap that sits behind the sink does not have a drain underneath it. Although it just so happens that there is an existing waste water pipe that runs across the back to the manhole about a foot or two from the tap. Everywhere I have ever lived has had a drain under the outdoor tap but my builders say the reverse and that's it's not necessary. In reality it will be either connected to the hose and rarely used directly but I'm sure there will be occasions. Do I need a drain under my outdoor tap?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi am a plumber and have never advised a customer to have a drain under the tap. Not needed I wouldn't think

Simple answer - no, as you do not always require a drain to contain rain water unless there is a risk of surface rain water ingress into your property!
