Chimney & Fireplace

Removal of fire/fireplace

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.15 PM

Hi, I have a gas fire/fireplace at the moment. I have had the gas fire disconnected. I am either going to have no fire at all or have an electric fire installed on the chimney breast wall. Can you tell me if I will need a vent installed, before plastering the wall, either with no new fire installed at all or with a new electric fire fitted on the chimney breast wall? Kind regards.

Hello Weejax The air vent is to help the chimney flue to have a flow of air. This will help prevent the build up of moisture in the chimney, which may lead to damp patches on your chimney walls inside the property. Also look at the top of the chimney and see if this is open, if you have birds nesting you may not be able to sweep this out. Vent the top of chimney but do not allow birds to build a nest.
