Removal of black mould to bathroom walls and skirting board

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.06 PM

Hi, A typical damp questions here, Behind my WC there is black mould which l want to get rid of once and for all, l have sanded it down earlier in the year down to the bare wall, also the old paint on the skirting board is also affected, wa thinking of removing them and replace with new but l had a good look at them and it's not rotting so lm thinking at giveing them a good sanding and removing paint that the sander can't get with string paint removal like nitromors. Can anyone give me advice on how to tackle this?, l was thinking of getting a plasterer in to do all the walls again, l have the ceiling plastered a few years ago and that's in good condition there, it's just the wall affected.

It sounds like ventilation issues, if black mould you need to address since some types are toxic, the WC cistern is of course cold water and will condensate, first sort out the ventilation, if you have an extractor may be upgrade it and put spaces behind the cistern where fixed to the wall to bring it off the wall to allow airflow around the cistern. its a common issue. I would put this down to ventilation issues. If you have one it could be worth upgrading. Mould is a living growth organism so once established it is difficult to manage the best scenario to prolong it coming back is to clean the area then pva the wall before painting. Hope this helps Dave.
