removing part of fireplace for a cooker.

We would like to remove a large majority of the fireplace to inset a cooker. How do we safely remove the brickwork so we can insert the lintel? Tia

Hi Tia you need to support the brickwork above the best way wold be for you to rent a set of acro props and strong boy brackets these simply hammer into the morter line in the brickwork you wish to support then you just tighten your props up while the work is done once your lintle is in just release them and your all done

1 Start by marking out the height and width of the opening
2 Angle grind through the plaster to the bricks
3 Hack off plaster to cut area
4 Cut 2 slots for supports/mini acrows&strong boys
5 Gently tap away at the bricks individually
6 insert and bed lintel with with recommended over hang
