Kitchen Fitting

Kitchen not being fitted to the correct standards? Queries not being fully answered by workmen?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.45 PM

(This is a severely abridged version of my situation, because of the 3000 character limit. I can supply more detail upon request.) I had been given the name of someone who could take on my kitchen project, as I did not have the time to coordinate the whole project myself. We discussed requirements, he ordered the units I wanted (to be delivered on the 17th December), and awaited the start of work... In order to cut down some of the costs, my partner and I decided to rip / strip out the old kitchen ourselves. It has been horrible. The long and short, I think, is that all the way along I've not been told about time frames by the coodinator / workmen, or why things have been done a certain way. Any concerns I have had about the fitting process seem to have been brushed aside, queries ignored. I have been told people will turn up on a certain day, and they don't. Only this morning, the kitchen fitter (who'd said he'd be back today) duly turned up on the doorstep, made excuses, and left without doing anything!! We've had no cooker for over two weeks, no sink for almost as long. Even my partner, an engineer himself, compounded my concerns about this whole mess because even he couldn't see how the electrics (and some of the plumbing for that matter) could be completed to the relevant standards with half the kitchen now having been fitted. I know some people have had jobs like this drag on for months, with similar responses from their respective workmen. Not being in the best of health, that's a situation I cannot cope with. (FYI - all that has been paid for so far are the kitchen units and not the work) If anyone has any ideas of how I can tackle this better, (apart from threatening to name and shame), I would appreciate it.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Go back to your original contract raise your issues via email. Do everything In writing verbally you won't have a leg to stand on should worst case occur I.e court I hope not. And don't always go for the cheapest quote usually cowboys with little experience dedication or care always get verified independent ref not just off of one source ie a mate. It's a shame I not know about this app until 2 days ago I would've blown you away I strive for perfection totally dedicated to my clients wants and needs you guys are my livelihood without you there is no me🤓👍🏼

Ask them when they will be back to carry on the work/a date for completion. Hold them to these dates and only pay once everything is completed and you are happy with it. Things do come up and delays can happen but there is no reason a kitchen should drag on for longer than a couple of weeks.

Seek new tradesmen, I know its close to Christmas but any decent tradesmen should not work this way. If you say your going to be there then be there. Raise your issues and only pay if your 100% happy.
