Disagreement with plumber following new installation- what happens to warranties for work
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.25 PM
Hi, I would appreciate some advise regarding a very distressing situation. We recently had a new boiler installed along with some other heating system related works. The plumber we asked to do the job, after much careful consideration, did cause us some hesitation due to his blunt, borderline provocative nature when he came to quote the job, but he came highly recommended by somebody in our neighborhood so we chose to proceed. From day 1 alarm bells started ringing when he worked just half a day the first day and very reduced hours the others, at times came out with bigoted and very non PC remarks about certain groups of people and behaved in an extremely unprofessional, far too familiar manner with us. It got to the point where I did not feel comfortable leaving him with my wife and children in the house and took time off work, since at that point he was half way done and I did not want to risk him walking out on an unfinished job. He ended up taking days longer than he originally estimated and overcharged us on the quote when he handed over the final bill. This without having explained to us why and how much the charge would be, when he carried out the work. When we queried the extra charge he got very upset and left, saying he'll never come back again. There is no way we'd actually want him to come back anyway, but what happens now if we have problems? Do we just find another plumber or would they not be comfortable working on something that somebody else has recently installed and is still under warranty? We would also feel better if somebody could come out and check the quality of his work to make sure there's nothing wrong but again, not sure if this is something other plumbers are likely to be happy to take on? Grateful for any advice, thanks beforehand
