Upstands not fitted well in our kitchen - fitter says it's 'perfect'
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.25 PM
We've had a kitchen fitted and had a few issues along the way (not our fault) which delayed it. When the final day came, the carpenter rattled through the work pretty sharpish and I feel some of it is a bit slapdash. The main issue I have is with our upstands. He has mitred the end of them but used butt joints at the corners, which looks awful. Where they are mitred, there are gaps all around each joint, they don't line up properly and the surface is chipped. I tried discussing it with him but he refused to engage and stormed out the house. He now claims that the work to rectify the chips is classed as decorating, which he does not do as he was paid to just fit the kitchen. But the joints are so obvious it looks awful and moreover we supplied the edge trim that could have been used if the edges were just cut straight. Can anyone advise as to whether his argument is normal or valid? I'm not happy paying for the install of these upstands and really want them replaced at his expense Thanks
