My architect has drawn a design and we have planning permission.

My architect has drawn a design and we have planning permission. This now cannot be built due to structural constraints. A significant redesign may now have to take place. Should he have advised us before submitting to planning? Is he liable for all further design costs? A service which I paid him for.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi,
The designs submitted by your architect has already been approved.
Had it been declined and the reason given was due to structural constraints, then your Architect would have amended your drawing as part of the fee.
He might not have been aware of the structural implications.

Hi there
You should have consulted a structural engineer simultaneously. Many architectural services have in house structural engineers like Archimedes Design. So it is always best to contact such consultants so you save money in the long run
Thanks
Syed

The great issue here is that usually the structure only get's exposed once works start because it requires intrusive analyses.

This is one of those situations where a Builder can advise better than an architect. A Builder would be aware of what is possible, what may be problematic and what you may need to do in the event of issues arising. If it were my design, I would honour the design change as what I'd provided was not fit for purpose.
