does my old combi boiler now need to have a 22mm gas supply pipe fitted?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.25 PM

I had a new combi boiler fitted about 10 years ago, as the property is rented out it is a legal requirement to have a gas safty certificate, every year i have had the boiler serviced, repaired as required, and a gas saftey certificate issued, this year the engineer told me he cannot issue a certificate for the boiler because " I am unable to issue a certificate due to the fact the boiler has no flue cage , the condense pipe is in correct and more seriously the gas pipe work to the boiler does not supply enough gas at the correct pressure to meet the manufacturers requirements. You will either need to upgrade the gas supply pipe or install a boiler that will operate at a lower gas requirement. " I am confused as to why these points are suddenly become an issue after all this time.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Any flue that is below 2m from ground level will require a flue cage, these are easy to fit and can be picked up from most plumbers merchants, just make sure it is a cage for a condensing boiler. Not sure what problem he found with the condense, could be that if it terminates externally into the ground it may not be 500mm from the fabric of the building and disperse into a soak away. The manufactures instruction book that came with the boiler will have the correct size pipework for that boiler, it the engineers readings are outside the perimeters whilst gas rating the appliance, for that particular boiler he cannot issue a certificate. Most condensing combi boilers do require a 22mm gas supply
