How to remove bathroom floor tiles stuck down securely
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.25 PM
My downstairs floor tiles are stuck fast. Not sure what base is underneath them but suspect concrete as the cloakroom is part of an extension built over 15 years ago. I'm replacing the old toilet with a wall hung one but can't seem to make a dent in the grout lines to get old toilet out and replace old floor tiles with more modern ceramic tiles. Any ideas? Tiles look like old terracotta ceramic tiles. Will a hammer and chisel through the grout do or should I invest in an angle grinder?

Hi.
The hammer and chisel will do the job is you are strong. Otherwise you should use the sds hammer. Dont forget to use goggles as the tiles are splintering

Hi there, I think it might be best to try grinding out the grout and then using a long bar and hammer to prize the tiles up. Alternatively you could use a sds hammer drill with a chisel bit and make a hole in the middle of the tile and then work your way out from there by getting the chisel bit under the tiles and breaking them away from the adhesive. If it's a concrete floor and it's being re tiled small divets in the concrete base won't matter too much.
Hope that helps
