13 AMP Oven - no seperate fuse

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.45 PM

I have an oven which has a regular 13AMP fuse. This is plugged in to a standard socket located in the cupboard beside the oven. There is no separate fuse in the fuse box for the oven - we have only fuses for the right and left downstairs sockets. When I switch the fuse, the oven goes off, along with the sockets in the living room etc. Is this OK? It just doesn't fit right with me...... THANKS DEACON....not quite sure how to answer your questions directly yet :-) No cooker circuit seems to be installed. Is that a big job? Fuse box is in the cupboard and the kitchen floor is tiled.....

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It is plugged into the local circuit i.e. Ring or radial. Not ideal but not uncommon. Only thing with it this way it Increases the load of the circuit its into. If you want a dedicated circuit from the con unit this is achievable. Have you not got a cooker circuit installed ? Your edit... no not a big job might have to get some floor boards up above. I would get a registered electrician in or post a job on here, if and I'm assuming here, you or anybody else in the future should want a bigger kw oven you could go for the full monty and have a 6mm cable installed and derate the MCB or fuse whatever you have at the con unit to suit your requirements now. Then as I said if you wanted to increase the kw capacity it's there. As the protective device ( fuse ) protects the cable rather than the appliance. You will require a Electrical Installation Certificate off of the person when it is done so make sure that he/she issues you with one should you decide to go ahead. Good luck.
