Still have damp patches after having chimney rendered
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.45 PM
My house is a semi with the exterior wall fully exposed to the elements (gable end?). When it rains I get damp patches appear on the chimney breast in the bedroom, which in dry weather do dry out and then get bad again with heavy rainfall. The chimney has been repointed, flashings fixed, the pots have had a new metal cowling etc, and I am satisfied that it "fixed" however I am still experiencing these problems. There is no (water) staining on the chimney stack in the loft either. In addition to these problems in the lounge I had excessive tide marks all along the inside walls either side of where the chimney breast sits in which have had a damp proof course (Vandex) and been plaster boarded over. The bottom right hand corner of the chimney breast is now getting a small tide mark as this bit was not damp proofed. There are vents in the chimney breast itself and additional vents in each rooms where the chimney breast is. All my windows have open trickle? vents, (this is not a condensation problem, and is only visable with prolonged rainfall) I really want the whole bloody stack taken away but I will have to fight with planning to get that done and I am running out of time and patience! Please help! Where do I go from here ?
