Replaced my half of a shared back fence

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.06 PM

We had a long fence, shared with a neighbour, running along the back of both gardens. It was overlapping boards along the whole length. Our half needed replacing, which we have just had done with panels and concrete posts. The problem now is that my neighbour is complaining that what is now the end of his fence, hasn't been secured to anything. He is saying that the fencing company should have ensured that his fence is secure. Any ideas where we stand with this? Thanks.

get the fencing company back to correct their mistake, you cannot remove /half of a fence if it joins your neighbors without making sure the end of their fence is secure the fencing company would have known this and should have told you this needed done. good luck alex

Hi most fencing contractors will secure old fencing to the new fence the best they can, if the old existing fence is beyond repair this can some time prove very difficult, the fencing company should have made you aware of the situation or it may have just been forgotten. I'm sure a reparable fencing company will return and attach the fence as a goodwill gesture. Hope this helps

A decent fencing company would have secured this fence, but you do not have a legal right to touch it, so you must first get the permission from your neighbour and then get the fencing company back.
