What would happen if I used orbry expansion dowels on 6mm board

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.45 PM

Hi all, I have a load of 6mm orbry backer board, the plastic washers and screws and also the expansion dowels. I had been intending to use the 6mm for the floor and walls because the pipework is tight and space there is an issue. After i bought them (2 years ago) I read that with flaky painted, holey, uneven walls you would need to mechanically fix the boards to the walls, hence bought the expansion dowels. Then I noticed that the expansion dowels could only be used with 10mm plus board. what would happen if I used them on 6mm? anyone tried? Also, failing that, would it be best to steel wool off as much as i can and use floor tile adhesive them to the wall or to dot and dab and then use the plastic washers with screws and rawl plugs? I have never done anything to do with tiling before so I'm learning on the job! May thanks!

Will happen nothing else that the head of the dowel remained outside the board, or, if it enters totally into the board, it lose it's sense, because the board will broke, so the dowel will not tide the board, but cut. That's because the dowel head itself has around 5 mm. The backer boards cant be pressed at a ratio of 5:1, it will crack than will come off with your tiles, when it has weight added.
