painting or wallpaper again after removing wallpaper
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.25 PM
Want to redecorate the downstairs cloak toilet. Don't know which is the easier option, new wallpaper again or paint? FYI, The walls usually catch some damp in winter, some mould is at the bottom and top of the wall / wallpaper now. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot!

from a maintenance point of view i would recommend painting the walls , as a low maintenance option. you say you have damp on occasion this would only blow the paper , may i suggest bleach the walls first then apply a sealer coat of stain block before you put the finish coat on ,regards dse decorating

I have used this in the passed but I cannot remember what it is called but this is what I found. If this is no help, try asking a council painter as they use a 3 stage mould treatment. (what I found follows)
Remove mould growth by
wiping down walls and window
frames with a fungicidal wash,
which carries a Health & Safety
Executive ‘approval number’.
Follow the manufacturer’s
instructions precisely.
n Dry clean mildewed clothes
and shampoo carpets
n Do not brush or vacuum
mould as this can increase the
risk of respiratory problems
n After treatment, redecorate
using a good quality
fungicidal paint to help
prevent mould recurring.
Note that this paint is not
effective if overlaid with
ordinary paints or wallpaper.
