Have planning permission granted, looking to remove side patio door due to neighbour complaints

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.33 PM

We have had planning permission granted for a 2 storey side and a single storey rear extension. Neighbour complained about a patio door that would be looking into his property. We are now thinking about removing this door and just having a whole brick wall, as this would be our utility room having an entire solid wall would be beneficial. The room still has another rear facing patio door and window. What would the process be? Do I need to reapply for planning permission as it's altered? Or can we just deviate from the plans by bricking up that patio door? I've read about a non material amendment? Would this apply? We are removing a feature rather than adding. Any advice greatly appreciated

I would phone the planning department and check that they will require a Non Material Amendment application, which is the usual practise. You will probably need to submit some amended elevation drawings showing the change.

If you ask the planning department, they are likely to want a revised set of drawings. If you don't question it they will probably never know, but I would want to know that I had done it right. It won't be an issue to get approval, because as you say it is omitting rather than adding something, and it will not take long for your Architect / Designer to submit the revised drawings. It will just be a formality for the Planning department, and with a planning fee of £28 it shouldn't be too painful.
