Conundrum: How to turn on lights with wall switch AND a PIR or other type of relay?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.45 PM

Is there a way to make 12V LED internal garage lights turn on with a sensor such as a PIR or a relay mounted next to the door AND the usual wall switch which would ensure you can turn it permanently on (when working in the garage). Is there a simple way to achieve this with just off the shelf components or would I need to build something more 'custom' using a relay? I don't mind whether the problem is solved at 240V level or 12V but I guess solving at 12V using a relay is probably easier, but would require the 12V PSU to be switched on 24/7 (not sure what the cost of that is with zero load - perhaps it's negligible)

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Get a 230 v coil relay with two sets of normally open contacts wire the switch to the coil and a neutral to the coil both 230v wire the 12v through the contacts + on one set - on the other set. If you want the pir to work it also wire the switch wire side of the pir to the switch wire in the 240 v coil , feeds as normal neutrals as normal.
