Replacement of lead piping into the house
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.44 PM
I am after some advice. We want to replace the lead pipe into the house, at the moment we are on a shared line, which we would want cutting off from the supply ( is this possible?). And our own supply putting in, can anyone tell me is this possible, we can't dig under the house though? Thank you

Yes, the lead pipe internal diameter is about 10mm, replacing it to a 25mm pipe to improve water flow is a standard work item on a larger refurbishment projects.
Some digging would have to be done from the house to the street. In terms of the work inside the house, it would have to be connected in similar way that your existing lead pipe is connected. The new pipe in the inside of the house could run in floor, wall or ceiling depending on what would be most practical.

as a shared main you will need to talk to the other main user before you carry out any work, there was a time when your water board would help with the cost of this work due to the fact it is a shared main and also if children lived at the property you should enquire about this to your water board.
