Banging rumbling noise at night from plumbing

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.24 PM

For the past 5 months, we hear what sounds similar to water hammer, cannot pinpoint where it is coming from sounds like upstairs toilet bathroom. This happens around 1am, does not seem to be related to turning water on or off. We have tried shutting down the main and running the water out several times. We have had a new comb1 fitted and have fitted new insides to the toilet. What can this be???

so many causes can be found for this,at night when no one is using water the pressure goes up it may be the pressure overcomes ball valve in cistern and starts to fill cistern this could cause the valve to vibrate setting up water hammer in uncliped pipe work,if it is a cistern with internal overflow you will never notice,
