what can you fill gaps in ply board flooring with?
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.44 PM
had to take up the tiles in the kitchen/dinning room because of a problem with the sub floor but don't have the money to re tile so was thinking of laying vinyl. the monkeys that put down the ply board in numerous places have left gaps up to 2 1/2 inches wide between the ply boards, I need to fill these gaps 1st, any one know what with? floor filler? cement? putty? many thanks for any help.

The ply needs replacing, you are allowed a gap between of 2mm which then you fill with feather finish.

I'm not a builder or floor specialist but I have worked on jobs in the passed where the same thing was going on.
I think they used a Latex (laytex)? self levelling type of screed before putting their floor covering down.
Search self levelling floor compound on the inter-web.

Ideally, there should not be a gap between the sheets of plywood at all if they have been fitted correctly. The feather finish is used afterwards to smooth over any slight differences in the height of the ply, not to fill gaps !
