Converting gravel to paving/concrete?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.24 PM
I am planning to get an outside pen made for my cats, but the area I'd like this to be done is currently covered in gravel (around 1.45m x 5.1m rectangle). However I also have a French drain around part of this area (along two edges, so one of the 1.45m edges and one of the 5.1m edges). Would be great to get some advice on: - what would be the best option - paving or concrete or something else? - should I look for a builder or landscaper to do this? - will the drain make things more difficult? Thank you!

You could use whichever method you'd like most. Whether using slabs or concrete all you would need to do was leave a small gully approx 100mm wide and maintain this as a French drain. If you wanted to get rid of the gravel completely you could dig a soak away and put in accos (an acco is a gutter that sits in the ground). This all depends on the area and how it falls.
It is a task that would be achievable by both builders and landscapers although in my experience landscapers tend to be a bit cheaper for these types of projects

Maybe something like block paving would be a good option, would allow water through and not upset the French drain.
