Legal requirements for installing wood burners upstairs.

We have an old cottage (converted farm building) with a flying freehold. The living room of the cottage next door is over our bedroom. They intend to install a wood burner in their living room. We are concerned about this for several reasons. The main concern is the weight of wood burners. The floor of the neighbour's living room (our ceiling) is floorboards so we are concerned that the floor may not bear the weight of a wood burner. The other worry is fire safety where floorboards are concerned.

They would need to install the fire on a non combustible hearth, so as long as it as been installed to regulations the floor boards will be ok. Also if it has been installed on a hearth it will help spread the weight of the appliance. Hope this helps :)
