New pvc windows supporting roof.
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.33 PM
I just had a new pvc windows installed. Upstairs roof beams were supported by old windows. The new window wasn't just reaching them. I was under impression that additional lentil like beam should be added on top of the frame. The frame is reinforced to hold the load. Fitters under every beam placed packers and secured them with foam. Is this supportive enough not to cause roof to sag or should I make a complaint?

A load bearing lintel might be needed, but with out photos to see then I would be only guessing. But I do know this standard UPVC windows are not load bearing and any weight on top of them would be mad practice.
Have you any pictures?

your trusses should be coming onto a wall plate, if they are coming straight onto the window frame this will not support them, as above would need to see what has been done to be certain but definitely sounds a bit dodgy.
good luck Alex

Shouldn't have any weight on top of frame itself all weight should be held up by the lintel reinforcement on Upvc frames is just hollow steel
