Gap on side of front main door

Hello Can someone help me please. I have a front door made of wood and there is a gap along the side of it (from the side that opens, not on the side with the hinge). This may be due the to wood expanding/contracting over time? This gap lets in cold air especially in winter so is there anything I can do to prevent this? Many thanks for your kind help.
