How to make wall tiles porous

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.05 PM

I want to stick a very thin sheet of stainless steel to the glazed tiles above my cooker as a splashback. The grab adhesive I bought says one of the surfaces needs to be porous, and I wondered if there was any way that I could make the tiles porous. I would be very grateful for any advice on this please.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi i would recommend that you use a different adhesive, you could use a good clear silicone quite effectively or something like Evostik contact adhesive, simply apply a coat of the adhesive to the wall tiles & a coat onto the back of the S/Steel sheet, allow it to dry 5-10mins & then lift the sheet into place on the wall. Once the 2 pieces meet though they will stick immediately and you wont be able to move it about, so check it is a good fit prior & maybe make some tap marks on the wall or the worktop to line it up, you could also use some 80 grit sandpaper to create a key on the ceramic tiles, but depending upon how strong the surface is it might not make any difference, hope this helps

Maybe get a ceramic drill bit and drill a few holes in them

You do not need to make the tiles porus, just use silicone as said,or use Siroflex grip and grab.
