Ceiling plaster fell down
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.24 PM
Hi I would need to ask advice. Firstly plasterer gave me the quote £700 for ceiling plaster in 4 rooms - 2 bedrooms and 2 reception rooms. We agreed with him and believed him that he is trade man himself. We paid it to him before the job - now i knew it is all wrong and we should have paid him after the job with having invoice. The plaster job was completed, it all seemed all good and we were pleased. We were going to paint all rooms but we had not enough time to do it due our other commitments and found the plasterer could paint all rooms in whole house and offered £2400, we agreed with him; we paid him £1200 (including £300 for paints, £400 for materials) and he promised that the job would be completed within 2-3 weeks by end of October. A few days later, two ceiling plasters in reception rooms fell out due damp ceilings; plasterer explained that these ceilings were not good and would need to take off ceilings; to fix up plaster boards in both rooms; he charged us extra job; we paid for £574 pounds for first reception room, not for 2nd reception room yet. October end was near, there was no much job to be done, no paints to be seen yet. He asked me to pay £700 again for reception room plaster and extra electric job - I did not ask it. I realized that he has forced us to pay more and more for jobs etc. I explained that re plaster would be full free charge for us, but he disagreed with it. Recently I checked with trade check site and found out that he is not trademan himself - he lied me and it is all rip off/fraud. Yesterday I met him and stopped him not to work any more; asked him to take his work stuff away and to leave, but he asked us money firstly repeatedly in bad manner; finally he went off. I should take legal advice with solicitor or CAB against him to pay back to us money for plaster, paints, right? I got evidence of photos and receipt but not invoice (I was stupid) I cannot report trade about him as he is not registered tradesman. I am so concerned if these ceiling plasters in 2 bedrooms including kids bedroom are safe so I should ask professional plasterer for the survey and report if these ceilings with plasters are safe or not. Please let me any advice.
