Removing a toilet and adapting plumbing for a washing machine?
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.44 PM
Hello, I have a cloakroom toilet under the stairs on the ground floor of my home. I wondered how easy it would be to remove the toilet and disconnect the waste pipes etc. and adapt the plumbing for a washing machine to turn the cloakroom into a utility room instead? Would this be quite straightforward or is it a complicated job? Any advice on how long it would take? Many thanks!

Everything you need is there so quite an easy job' take everything out and use the 4'' pipe for the washing machine to terminate in to, get a 4'' stopend with a 42 mm outlet boss but make sure you use a trap to stop the smells coming through

Simple job, that can be completed by a tradesman or a competent DIY person. A case of adapting the waste from 4" to 1 1/2" and isolating the water feed and replacing the current isolation valve with a washing machine tap.

This would be a fun Project for you to tackle alone if you are hands on, and don't mind a little hard work as it will be very rewarding. However it would be a simple enough job for a tradesman to carry out for you. Good Luck

You could probably you tube how to take out a toilet hopefully their is a isolation valve to the toilet. Try and get as much of the water out of the toilet as possible. The job would normally take a plumber 2hrs max a diy home owner max 4 hours.good luck

This should be an easy alteration which could be done same day even if it involves the removal of the old suite
