Damp Proofing

Hello,Our living room wall is wet to touch above the skirting boards with black mould,so is our bedroom wall(directly above). It's an external wall and worse with funiture near it and in the winter????

The wall is quite weathered on the exterior and is in need of repointing. Also our windows in our property do suffer with black mould is this linked? We have ventilation slots on the windows of the property, do they always need to be open? Am I right in thinking the mould spores are dangerous to breathe in?? Thank You.

First get all the pointing sorted out, check the sealant around all windows. The trickle vents should be open all the time, although you may not be getting much ventilation, try to move furniture away from walls. Plenty of air circulation will help a lot.

They are not connected and the vents shouldn't need to be left open but wouldn't know unless some one sees the job.

As BJD has advised but also think about a Heat Recovery Unit! But you need to sort out the external defects first and if you still have condensation issues then look into extra ventilation. Mould spores are dangerous and in America it is now called "TOXIC MOULD".
