Removal of a chimney breast
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.24 PM
Hello, we have a chimney breast in out kitchen which we are hoping to remove and then create an archway through to our utility room. We aren't sure who we would need to get to come out. Would we need a structural engineer in the first instance to check load bearings or can a normal builder do all of this? Thanks

Structural engineer is your best bet to do the calculations for the steel required it will also need building regs, that way when you come to sell all the paperwork will be their to show the job was carried out correctly.
Good luck Alex

Hello,
I agree with Alex however I would suggest that the cost of supporting the remaining chimney may be better spent removing the chimney completely.
