How do I get my radiator hot again after removing it for decorating?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.33 PM
We recently removed the radiator in an upstairs bedroom to decorate/remove skirting boards. We have now put the radiator back on, turned the central heating on and every other radiator in the house is getting hot but this one. Initially when we first turned the boiler back on it became hot for about 5 minutes, then cooled down and hasn't heated up since. We have tried bleeding the radiators but it hasn't made a difference. How do I detect if there is a blockage? Some advice to people with similar problems seems to be to flush the system...How do I do this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

the fisrt thing to do would be make sure the lock shield valve is open and the thermostatic radiator valve is working, old trv's tend to stick shut when the decorators cap is fitted. make sure the radiator is bled properly, also try turning the lock sheilds on the other rads off one turn this usually helps if no joy the best thing to do is post the job under post a job and get a few quotes.
hope this helps

sounds like one of your valves is not opening if the system is vented and the rest of the radiators are ok maybe when you removed the radiator you overtightened a valve and it is broke or the rubber inside has come off the fitting either shut both valves down and then reopen them and feel around the pipe to see if its getting hotter ,if this does not do the trick then drain down the system and replace the radiator valve
