Electrical

carrying out electrical test of house

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.33 PM

My house was fully rewired in 2011 and has been occupied by tenants since and I believe damages could have occurred as I've had to replace some sockets and RCD seem to trip. So I would like to have my 3 bed semi-detached in West Yorkshire tested of all it's electrics, so: controller unit, RCD, sockets, switches, lighting fittings, wiring and anything that uses electricity. Questions: Would I need a periodic inspection? Would this test everything I need? Can any qualified electrician to do this? Thank you

You need a EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report. This will cover everything and you will get a certificate which you might need for insurance purposes, it will either pass or fail. If it fails then the work has to be put right. Best done in my opinion by a registered electrician. This test will cover 5 years if to be rented again but another check should be done on change of occupancy or the five years coverage.
