Question: Time to re-tile and refitting bathroom and shower cubicle damp advice please

Anonymous user 24 October 2016 - 5.25 PM

Hi there, I need to know roughly how long and materials for our bathroom. I have a small bathroom, with sloping ceiling. 3.5 metres long, 2 metres wide and 2.5 metres high. Tiles on all walls need to be replaced, approx 1.5 metres up the wall. Measures 10 - 12 square metres for tiling area in total. Shower cubicle needs to be removed, reinstalled and tiled. Plumbing for the bath pipework needs to be re-fitted as goes into the tiled wall too. The bathroom is an extension and walls get damp. For shower cubicle I have seen Schluter KERDI Waterproofing Membrane and Kerdi-board which should I use?

For an area of 10-12 sqm you will require approx 2 bags of adhesive When tiling the floor I would use a flexible quality adhesive and fit a tile backer board prior to installation or in some cases a fracture membrane depending on the level of movement. I would remove existing wall boards in the shower and if you replace these with a tile backer board in the wet zone you will not require to apply a waterproofing system as it will do the same job.

10-12 sq Mtr area will need 2 bags of adhesive, flexible adhesive if going onto wood if floor is being tiled and its wooden you should board the floor preferably using hardiebacker boards. You will need tile trim to suit fixed to external corners and window sills. Grout for 12 sq Mtr will need 2 bags not using much out of the second bag. For the waterproofing I prefer to use a tanking system Ardex wp kit is a good product. To use tanking system board wall as normal the paint the wp kit onto wall and leave to set once dry it forms a rubber membrane once done the painted area is completely waterproof. For plumbing you should only need 15mm copper pipe waste pipe elbows and couplers for both types of pipe. Washers, pipe clips, screws etc. Thank you for your question from Nathan @ nathan Jones tiling solutions. Hope you find this helpful and all goes well with your project.
