Float and skimming walls
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.24 PM
Hi I've only been plastering 3 years and I'm confident at boarding and skimming but I've recently taken on a job that involves floating before skimming I've never floated with sand and cement before so I'm going in blind do you use a plastersiser/Feb in the 5-1 mix and can I mix it in my jelly tub with my dril? Also do you pva the walls before applying sand and cement and do you need to scratch it when finished? Any help much appreciated

Hi, sand & cement is a a lot harder than any other plastering. Put it on too thick or too wet & it will shrink & crack.
First off pva the areas, then you will need to hire a cement mixer. I put half a bag of cement to each mixer full which is approx 4/1 ratio sand / cement. Use sharp sand as this won't shrink as much as you don't need to add as much water & drys a lot stronger.
Add waterproofer & plasticer to each mixer full at the start. Do a scratch coat first day then top coat 2nd. Cheers willis (JW Plastering & Damp Proofing)
