Best approach for uneven concrete screed

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.05 PM

Hi, We have a new kitchen extension 30m2, concrete screed on top of UFH, over which I'm going to lay 14mm engineered wood. I initially thought it was level enough to just lay a 3mm underlay with a DPM (http://www.interfloor.com/underlay/duralay-timbermate-excel/) and then float the floor over the top. But I've since found fairly large areas which are uneven up to 8mm, and you can feel the boards moving up and down (these aren't glued together yet). Should i use a latex self levelling compound on the whole floor, or can i get away with just applying to the worse areas and then putting the underlay back? Also, if i do the whole floor do i need one with a DPM, or is there any value in putting the (expensive) underlay back? Thanks for any help

Your concrete base is way too young to be fitted on top of, it takes roughly 1mm per day to dry out, get in a professional installer to do the job properly or you will have a failed floor.
