Is there a quicker way to remove peeling paint from new plaster than sanding?
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.44 PM
I applied dilute emulsion, then two normal coats to new plaster, but have since realised that my first coat should've been Matt and not emulsion. The ceilings are fine, but the walls are peeling. On one of the walls, the paint peeled off in big sheets, but on the other it is very small patches. Is it worth another 'sacrificial' coat to aid the peeling or is it a long sanding chore?

Remove loose paint. I have had to do this where someone has painted over wall paper paste and it simply came of by washing the wall. otherwise there are chemical paint removal products to help with the removal. Just remember to wash all chemicals away before painting. Old plaster will willingly give up the paint.

hi you could get a razor blade scraper if you are competent with method and take your time and the paint should just scrape of the walls with out damaging the plaster, I have jus done a job using this method and it was fine. but it does depend on how easy the paint is willing to come off the wall in some cases its cheaper to scrape the walls and get it re skimmed hope this helps.
