New fuse board fitted caused old cooker & new one to trip electric
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.44 PM
Hi, I recently had a new fuse board fitted. Everytime I switched my electric cooker on, it tripped electric in whole house. I was told that this is common with old cookers and new fuse boxes and advised to get a new cooker. New cooker was installed, and same problem with tripping everytime I switch it on started 45 mins after installation. Why is this happening? Surely both appliances can't be to blame?

Get the RCD tripping checked on your " fuse board "! Get the cooker checked for Earth leakage. Get an insulation test done on the cooker cable. Did you get a certificate from the registered electrician who changed the consumer unit?! All the results should be on there. In short get the electrician back who fitted the con unit as it's obvious that the fault was there in the first place before the board was changed.

Firstly as Deacon says get the guy back who installed it. Depending what trips as to the answer, chances are there may be a loose connection there somewhere. Best to get someone with a torque screwdriver to check.

What was the cost of the new cooker? A lot more than getting your "electrician" back to put right what was obviously wrong in the first place. The remark about it being common is just rubbish, it's doing it for a reason!
