is it possible to fitgas stove with a gas flue in situ in chimney #

fireplace knocked out and gas flue already in situ ,. purchased gas stove which requires cast iron flue to be attached to flexi flue , is this possible , as I have been advised that the fireplace will need to be knocked out and rebuilt around gas stove
