Can I use clear varnish over primed wood?
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.33 PM
This is a weird question even for my standards but I'm desperate as my time scale is short. I sanded down my old pine table with the intentions of just clear varnishing but it's turned into a complete nightmare. The grain started chipping away as I sanded so I decided to use filler and painted it with primer. I wanted to apply a white gloss but I quite like the effect of the primer, so, my question is....can I simply just clear varnish over the primer? What will happen. Does anyone know?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

clear varnish ovr the primer is ok. your giving your furniture the shabby chic look. and if you like the look thats great. if your using the table alot i would probably give it 2 or 3 coats leaving to dry in between to give it the more hardwareing.. theres also a facebook page called shabby chic projects that will give free advice on any other items you might like to paint as well .
