Dust on the bottom seal inside my new double glazed windows

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.05 PM

I had 7 double glazed windows put into my new sunroom. We have noticed that in 5 of them there is a line of dust or dried pale sediment at the bottom seal in between the two pieces of glass. We were wondering if the firm that made them did not make them in a clean environment or that they have been made some time ago and was waiting in a damp building workshop for a builders firm to order 7 windows roughly the same size that had been made. I have contacted the builder and he is coming to check the windows himself. Any suggestions as to how dust could have entered a sealed unit Please?

If the dust or sediment is white-ish in colour it could be that the unit is about to break down. ie condensation will appear between the panes. Normally this occurs when the glass is sitting in the frame with no packers underneath. The glass sits in water from the rain outside or condensation inside. If the packers are in place this will prevent it happening. Also the packers could have been placed wrongly. If a 28mm glass unit is in place and 24mm packers are used then the inner pane can slip down breaking the seal between panes. Hence condensation. You will need to replace the units. Hope this helps.

Hi these could be silicone granules. Some manufacturers used these to absorb moisture.
