Wall socket broken is it safe or should I switch it off at the mains?

I have broke the wall socket. Is it safe or should I switch it off at the mains until it is fixed?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Common sense should be used.
1/ Do not use the socket till replaced.
2/ How badly is it broken are live parts exposed or in danger of contact with
other parts.
3/Are there children around.
4/If not too badly damaged it may be acceptable to place an item of
furniture in front as a barrier so you can use the other sockets till a
repair can be carried out but if any doubt on safety then turn off the
circuit.

You should get advice from a professional electrician.
