3 planks of wood
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.43 PM
Hi i have boarded my loft just so we can put a scalextric in but there are 3 planks of wood running down the middle from ceiling to floor and was wondering what they were for? And if i could remove them? They don't look thick enough to be load bearing as they have bowed over time. I think somebody said they were to support the joists of the ceiling below but unsure. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

That's exactly what they are for.

They sound like ties and support weaker ceiling timbers at the centres between other supports, best left in place.
