Extending above a single-skin garage

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.23 PM

We converted our single-skin garage into a playroom a few years ago. Now we'd like to extend above it to create another bedroom and ensuite but the walls probably won't support the weight. Is there any way of building above without having to rip out the stud walls and build a second skin in the converted garage? Was thinking maybe a timber-framed structure, is that do-able/ cost-effective?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

depends on your foundation strength to take the weight above but I'd be surprised if a garage footing was up to the job hard to give a straight answer but there are many things you would need to look into underpinning possibly an option speak to building control, an architecte, structural engineer they will be able to help has anyone done something similar in your street?
