To over board or not to overboard?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.05 PM
That is the question. I have am artex ceiling that I want skimming to get rid of the artex and because there is now some damage from having a wall removed. Ons plasterer has said overboarding will get a general longer term better finish. The other has said it'll make very little difference. What is the general concensus on this matter?

Hello jlb, It doesn't matter either way as long as the cieling is flat enough already. The plasterer needs to be careful where any wiring or pipes may be above if he is going to over board it. There is also the possibility that the artex contains white asbestos if it is old enough (pre 2000). I Would say if it is pre 2000 and the artex needs scraping back to flatten it off before skimming then overboard it. If it is post 2000 or It doesn't need disturbing to skim it and is flat enough to get a good finish, then just skim it. Hope this helps.
