Painting newly plastered walls

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.43 PM

Hello ! We have recently had a large conservatory built onto the back of our home. We have used tradesmen for all the jobs so far but wanted to paint ourselves to be involved. We have painted Dulux Once onto freshly plastered walls and have almost like dirty grease like shadows on the walls in places and the paint comes off very easily. I have read through various answers to 'how to paint replastered walls' and now realise we should have primed the walls first with a 'mist' too late now :( So my question is ... what do we do now? How can we fix it ? Most of the walls look fine but some in places (mostly by switches and lights) look untidy. Please can you give me advice ???

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I come across this all the time ,paint pealing due to not sealing plaster. It is caused by the plaster sucking all the moisture out of the paint leaving the paint barely floating over the surface. I would use a very sharp scraper blade and remove all the paint. Then sand and fill any defects. Apply one coat of Dulux plaster sealer or a watered down emulsion . Then apply two coats of quality emulsion (never Any once paints ). The job will look great and last for years. Rob at Teigndec Ltd.

Maybe the plaster was not 100% dry of the time of painting this can play a big roll in what as happened to you. The advice by Rob is good advice how to sort the problem. But I Carnt stress enough the plaster must be 100% dry.. Andrew Lawton time served painter and decorator with 23 years experience...
