Crack in bath stone lintel over fireplace
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.05 PM
I would like advice and quote. We have uncovered the original fireplace in a 1750s cottage, but the bath stone lintel has a crack all the way through it in the middle. Can this be repaired by inserting a keystone? Or can this just be patched? We have been advised that structurally the crack isn't an issue.

Hi Sketti
yes you can repair Bath stone in a number of different ways.
Hairline cracks can be pinned and pointed.
Broken or missing stone can be Mortar repaired or cut out and have stone indent installed.
If damage is in the middle you can cutout damaged stone and insert a Keystone as Suggested, the keystone can also be made thin and pinned over the top of damaged stone.
I hope this is of some Help.
