Plumbing

Digital shower on gravity fed system

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.43 PM

Hi, We are about to refurb our bathroom we currently have a Triton aqua sensation pump on wall with dedicated hot and cold feed. We have a header tank in loft 1.7m above shower head this tank also feeds our HWC which is sited just under the header tank in the loft in a horizontal orientation. System works ok with the right shower head. New bathroom we will remove the bath and have just a shower enclosure 1700mm x 700mm, I don't want to fit a standard mixer valve with a loft pump as I don't want to have to walk into enclosure to turn on shower, dodge the resulting water and run out to wait until it reaches temp. I want to fit a Mira Platinum digital shower with additional control outside shower. Problem: Our current setup has the habit of loosing pressure mid shower, the pump goes into a higher pitch the water pressure drops. It comes back on after 30 secs or so and carries on as if nothing has happened. Seems like air (cavitation) can't have this with new set up, how do we put it right ? Also Mira have expressed the opinion that their digital shower would not be suitable for our situation but have not given the reason why, anybody out there know what their concern might be with a gravity fed system ? that isn't that unusual in the UK.

Does your hwc have a surrey flange fitted ? Is your hwc on a slight gradient ? And what size header tank are you using .If your header tank isn't big enough to cope with the demand of water it can cause air in the hwc.A surrey flange to the shower take off will reduce the intake of air to the pump .Also where is the pump sited is it below the hwc?
