Creaking floors, repair with tenants in-situ?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.43 PM

HI, The first floor of my rental property is made up of large sheets rather than traditional floorboards. The floors creak everywhere, but especially the landing and the bathroom. The floors are covered with carpet (lino in the bathroom). Would all carpets have to come up and new sheets laid for the creaking to be remedied? I can't work out how to get this sorted with tenants (and all their furniture) in the property. Is there an easier way? Thanks in advance, Maxine

Hi there this is quite a common problem you have and I'm afraid the only sure way to remedy is uplift carpets and underlay inspect under floor for pipes and cables then to screw rather than nail the chipboard panels down depending wether the vynil floor has been glued and siliconed down will determine if vynil may have to be replaced furniture can be worked around doing half a room at a time but this is quite a big job to undertake and disruption is unavoidable also time consuming and expensive hope this is of help to you regards phil
