Patches of black and blue mould in a bedroom
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.05 PM
Recently moved into an older house, no signs of damp problems. Advised by surveyor to have rendering sorted out as could be a future problem. That is currently being done. The other day I noticed a musty smell in my bedroom and moved the wardrobe and drawers away from the wall. There was a patch of black mould and also a lot of blue mould on the back of the wardrobe and wall and also inside the wardrobe. I'm not sure of the cause or best course of action. The house has solid brick wall.

with this type of property rendering should be done with lime render to avoid future issues

The main problem you have is saturated air, enclosed cavity void behind the wardrobe and no fresh air change ventilation, this is allowing the mould to thrive. Recommend you clean everything with mould and bleach remover, insulate board the internal wall, improve heating and allow for at least 2 to 3 air changes each day by opening the windows or install additional vents and stop cold bridge effect from the windows by closing the curtains.
